Softball Team Breaks Late Tie for Victory

Led by the big bat of freshman Sarah Donnelly, the Medford Lady Mustangs erupted for eight runs in the fourth inning to break up a tie game with a scrappy Revere nine, en route to a 10-5 victory at Tufts Park in Medford on Monday.

The hard hitting freshman banged out a double for two RBI’s to put the home team ahead by two runs and followed that up in the same inning with a line shot, driving in two more runs to close out the scoring for her Mustang teammates, said Head Coach Jack Dempsey. Donnelly finished the game with a 2 for 3 performance with four RBI’s and one run scored.

Junior pitcher Rayann Staude pitched a complete game, allowing seven hits while striking out as many batters and contributing a single an a run scored. Junior shortshop Jackie Pellecchia had a single, two bases on balls and four stolen bases. Senior captain Kristina Bove had a single, two RBI’s, base on balls and a run scored, fellow captain Victoria Luongo chipped in with a long triple (pictured at right), senior captain Kasey Moran scored a run, stole a base, and hammered a single that drove in a run, and junior Emily Welch had a two base hit, a stolen base and two runs scored. Sophomores Sam Lopilato and Kristina Lynch both had hard hit singles.

The Medford record now stands at two wins and no losses with upcoming away games at Arlington on Tuesday, Framingham on Friday and Winchester Saturday morning.
