Prep Work Continues April 4-April 8

Work crews will continue construction activities in preparation for the upcoming replacement of fourteen deteriorated bridge superstructures on Route I-93 in Medford. The primary work activities next week will take place during the overnight hours between 8:00 PM and 5:00 AM, Monday, April 4, 2011 through Friday, April 8, 2011. Additional preliminary activities may occur, when feasible, during the day between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM, Monday through Friday.

The following lane closures are scheduled to occur:

Route I-93 Southbound

– Double left lane closure near Exit 30 (Route 38) near the Medford/Somerville line on Monday, April 4 and Wednesday, April 5 through Friday, April 8. The first lane will be closed at approximately 8:00 PM and the second left lane will be closed at 9:00 PM.

– Right lane closure in the area of Exit 33 (Route 28) Stoneham/Medford and Exit 30 (Route 38) at the Medford/Somerville line on Monday, April 4, Tuesday, April 5 and Friday, April 8 from 8 PM to 5 AM.

Route I-93 Northbound

– Bridge deck repairs at various locations within the project limits. These activities will require the closure of either the two right lanes or the two left lanes in the general area of the work on Monday, April 5 through Friday, April 8 between 8:00 PM and 5:00 AM. The second lane will be closed at 9:00 PM.

– Double left lane closure in the vicinity of Exit 29 (Routes 28/38) near the Somerville/Medford line on Monday, April 4 and Tuesday, April 5 from 8:00 PM and 5:00 AM. The first lane will be closed at approximately 8:00 PM and the second left lane will be closed at 9:00 PM.

– Right lane closure in the area of Exit 33 (Route 28) and the area of Exit 29 (Routes 28/38) on Wednesday, April 6 and Thursday, April 7 from 8:00 PM and 5:00 AM.

– Double left lane closure in the vicinity of Exit 33 (Route 28) near the Medford/Stoneham line and Exit 29 (Routes 28/38) near the Somerville/Medford line on Tuesday, April 5 and Friday, April 8 from 8 PM to 5 AM. The first lane will be closed at approximately 8:00 PM and the second left lane will be closed at 9:00 PM.

Additionally, work crews will be completing highway lighting improvements as part of a separate project in isolated areas on I-93 northbound or southbound between Exit 29 (Routes 28/38) and Exit 33 (Route 28). The work will occur during the overnight hours between 8:00 PM and 5:00 AM, Sunday, April 3 through Thursday, April 7. This activity will require the closure of the two left lanes in the general area of the work. The first lane will be closed at approximately 8:00 PM and the second left lane will be closed at 9:00 PM.

Local Roadways

– Intermittent single lane and shoulder closures on Riverside Avenue beneath I-93 on Monday, April 4 through Friday, April 8 from 7:00 AM and 3:30 PM.

MassDOT encourages drivers to allow extra time for their trips and to reduce speed and use caution when travelling through all work zones.
