Mayor McGlynn Encourages Earth Hour Participation

McGlynn and Medford’s Office of Energy and Environment are urging all Medford residents to participate in the Global Earth Hour on Saturday, March 26, 2011, from 8:30 – 9:30 PM. Earth Hour encourages all people to switch off their lights for this hour in an effort to continue to conserve energy. A record 131 countries and territories have already registered to be a part of this event.

Landmarks around the world will be turning off their lights to mark this important initiative including: The Empire State Building and Times Square in New York, Christ the Redeemer Statute in Brazil, the London Eye in England and the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France. Earth Hour is the world’s largest global change project.

“As we have learned in Medford, every little bit helps in conserving energy. Being green is truly contagious as the world comes together to participate in this most important global initiative,” said Mayor McGlynn.
