Medford Police Look for Suspects in Stabbing

Medford Police are looking for four suspects who allegedly attacked and stabbed a man who was jogging.

The incident happened on Thursday around 7:30PM near the intersection of Salem and Park Streets. Police say four males in their early 20’s, three white and one possibly Hispanic, assaulted and stabbed a man who jogged by them. A Medford police officer was just a few blocks away and was alerted by a witness that a man was being attacked in the area. She arrived on scene quickly and was followed by several other officers. Police set up a perimeter and conducted a K-9 search, which resulted in the collection of a “good amount of evidence and information” that provided police with some “solid leads.”

The victim was stabbed in the upper torso. Police administered first aid at the scene and he was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital, where he was operated on and admitted. According to Medford Police Lieutenant Paul Covino, the man is in good condition and is expected to recover.

Police are calling the incident a “random act of violence” and say the suspects “were trolling for an opportunity to commit their crime.” Police are asking for the public’s help in bringing the four individuals to justice.

In the mean time, police are warning people to be careful when out walking and jogging.

“We encourage all people to be more vigilant when out walking or jogging. Be aware of your surroundings. If you are at all nervous that someone is following you move to a well lit public area and call for help. Be as loud as possible. It is better to be embarrassed for over-reacting to a situation that you think could be harmful to you rather than to be assaulted,” said a statement from Medford police.
