Medford’s Carla Andre (#15) has helped lead her team to its fourth straight NCAA tournament bid.

Former Medford High star Carla Andre and the Emmanuel College Saints (15-0 GNAC, 21-7 overall) have earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament. The Saints will play in Brunswick, Maine on Friday, taking on Mt. Saint Mary College of Newburgh, NY in the NCAA’s D-3 first round of 64 teams. If the Saints win on Friday they will advance to meet the winner of the Bowdoin-Salve Regina game on Saturday. The winner will advance to the Sweet 16 next weekend at a site to be determined. The 2011 Final Four will be held in Bloomington, Illinois on March 18 & 19.

The Saints will be making their 16th appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Emmanuel advanced as far as the NCAA Final Four in 2001 and the NCAA Sweet Sixteen in 2007.

Emmanuel is led by their senior captains; Andre of Medford, MA, Kristen LeBel of Tolland, CT, Pam Mobley of Worcester, MA and Casey Shevlin of Medford, NY. The captains have been part of four straight Great Atlantic Conference Championships. They have also led the Saints to the NCAA tournament for the last four years. During their college careers Andre, Mobley, Lebel & Shevlin have totaled over 2,000 points as the Saints have posted a 93-26 overall record over that span as well as an incredible 47-4 mark against GNAC opponents.

Before Emmanuel, Andre was a four-year starter on the varsity basketball team at Medford High and was two-time Greater Boston League All-Star as a junior and senior. She led the Mustangs to the state tournament in her senior year. She was a three-sport high school captain, also running Cross Country and playing Softball all four years.
