When Malden Catholic visited Medford on December 21, they defeated the Mustangs 84-72. On Tuesday night the Mustang boys basketball team defeated the Lancers with a very similar score, 84-79.

Senior guard Danny Gilchrist and sophomore forward Owen Healey led all Mustang scorers with sixteen points apiece. Owen Healey was 4-6 from beyond 3 point land, including a huge 3 to put Medford up by four with a minute left.

“He came up really big for us. It shows a lot of composure to make plays like he does especially as a sophomore. He has hit some big shots at critical times for us throughout the season,” said Coach Faradie.

Junior guard Maurice Magras had fourteen points while senior forward Larry Keating added eleven for Medford. Dom Mastascusa led the Lancers with sixteen points.

“We were able to win the turnover battle at a pretty good margin and were plus 17 in that category. Malden Catholic went to the line 42 times in the game, Medford only 16. There was a huge foul discrepancy in the game. We were still able to pull it off,” said Coach Faradie.

The Mustangs host GBL rival Malden on Friday at 7PM.
