Medford Pianists to Perform in Benefit Concert

Hirsch-Pinkas Piano DuoMedford residents and pianists Evan Hirsch and Sally Pinkas will perform in a benefit concert on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. at the Winchester Unitarian Society, located at 478 Main Street. The suggested donation is $15 and all proceeds go to benefit service work in Appalachia.

Since 1992 the Hirsch-Pinkas Piano duo has been presenting one and two-piano recitals to enthusiastic audiences throughout the world. Medford residents Sally Pinkas and her husband Evan Hirsch, each an active soloist, bring to their collaborations virtuosity, enthusiasm, and striking warmth. Dedicated to an exploration of twentieth century music, they are equally at ease with the standard repertoire, from Byrd to Mozart to Rachmaninoff. They often include works especially arranged by Hirsch. Popular with young audiences, they frequently present Master classes in conjunction with their concerts.

Hirsch and Pinkas regularly perform in Italy, have been in residence at the Kfar Blum Music Festival in Israel, have toured Nigeria, and performed in St. Petersburg, Russia, Bulgaria, China, and France. Please visit their website for further information.

The Winchester Unitarian Society Youth Group, led by Medford resident Jessica Rubenstein and consisting of high school youth from Medford, Winchester, Wakefield, Woburn and Reading, has earned a national reputation for their service work over the last decade. Articles about them have appeared in national newspapers and magazines, and most recently the group received a nice write-up about their legacy of service in a book entitled, “Journeys of the Spirit”. They have worked with Habitat for Humanity, Common Ground Relief, Gulf Coast Volunteers for the Long Haul, and most recently, the Hinton Rural Life Center in the Appalachian mountains of North Carolina. This year, the group will be sending over 50 youth and adults on an intergenerational week-long work trip in April to build and repair homes in Hayesville, North Carolina.
