According to the National Weather Service, there is a 100% chance that six to ten inches of snow will fall on Medford Wednesday night. There is also a 100% chance that residents have had enough.

A winter storm warning has been issued for eastern Massachusetts for an impending nor’easter. Snow is expected to start falling heavily Wednesday evening and should slow down before 10AM on Thursday.

The winter storm warning is in effect from 4PM Wednesday until 10AM Thursday. The heaviest snow is forecast between 9PM Wednesday through 5AM on Thursday.

The snow is expected to be wet and heavy, which could be problematic for tree limbs and power lines.

Medford has joined several area communities, including Boston, Malden, Somerville, and Everett, in closing school on Thursday, January 27. It is the fourth snow day so far for Medford.

“The snow storm is on track to leave a significant amount in our area and there will be insufficient time to clear school areas including sidewalks. Further, we would expect a difficult commute and high absenteeism,” said School Superintendent Roy Belson in an email.

A snow emergency has been issued in Medford as of 6PM until 6AM Friday, which means no parking on designated emergency arteries and parking only on the even side of the street until the snow emergency is lifted.

The following are considered emergency arteries:

Boston Avenue, Central Avenue, College Avenue from George Street to Boston Avenue, Forest Street, Fulton Street, George Street, Governors Avenue, Grove Street, Hancock Street, Harvard Avenue, Harvard Street, High Street, Lawrence Road, Main Street, Medford Street, Mystic Avenue from Main Street to Crescent Street, Playstead Road, Riverside Avenue, Salem Street, Spring Street, Washington Street, Webster Street, Willis Avenue, Winthrop Street and Woburn Street.

Trash and recycling pickup has been postponed one day, with Thursday’s pickup happening Friday and Friday’s pushed to Saturday.

This is the fourth major snow storm since a post-Christmas blizzard dumped over a foot of snow.
