Local Teens Busted for Drinking on New Year’s

Police in Hampton, N.H., were busy New Year’s Eve. As the clock ticked down on 2010, two calls, 10 minutes apart, drew officers to a pair of parties. Result: 21 arrested.

Among those charged was Matthew Curran, 18, of Arlington. The prosecutor’s office in Hampton reported his address as 5 Hodge Road. That is the residence of Joseph E. Curran, a member of the Arlington School Committee. The elder Curran has not responded after two requests for comment.

Following a 11:13 p.m. call from a parent who had a child there, police went to 40 Ocean Blvd., according to an account in Seacoastonline, the Web site for a number of area newspapers. Police made a number of trips to the cottage near Hampton Beach State Park and arrested 13 teens on charges of unlawful possession of alcohol, the Web site reported. A number are from the Arlington area.

Taken into custody in addition to Curran were Megan Delande, 18, of Hampton; Laura Maunsell, 18, of Medford; Christopher Wright, 19, of Gloucester; Joshua Brodeur, 18, of Whitinsville; Andrew Crawford, 18, of Medford; Michael Anthony Lespasio, 18, of Lexington; John Raimo, 18, of Medford; Jeff John Devine, 18, of Medford; Stephen Daly, 19, of Saugus; Connor O’Riordan, 18, of Wilmington; Michael Settipani, 18, of Charlestown; and Evan Robert Mahan, no age or hometown available, of Massachusetts.

In the second case, police were called at 11:23 p.m. to 494 Winnacunnet Road. Eight people, all of New Hampshire, were taken into custody after police were had to obtain a search warrant to gain entry.

The prosecutor’s office said Jan. 20 that the accused are to be arraigned at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, in Hampton.
