Snow in Medford

An early morning blizzard has already generated about a foot of snow in Medford with more snow expected to fall throughout the day. The area could see up to eighteen inches of snow by the time the storm wraps up in the early evening hours. A rain/snow line close to the coast has produced some wet, heavy snow but snow is expected to become more light and fluffy as temperatures drop. The storm has created near-white out conditions, as seen above on a Medford street, and people are urged to stay put if possible until conditions improve.

The Medford Public Schools will be closed another day on Thursday, January 13, according to School Superintendent Roy Belson, because more time is needed for the schools and city to clear the massive amounts of snow in order for school travel to be safe.

Snow fall totals in Medford have been close to eighteen inches as of late afternoon.

A recorded message from the Medford Police Department said the snow emergency remains in effect in Medford until further notice and that cleanup from the storm will continue for the next forty-eight hours.

The message also said “work is also currently underway to remove any debris from damaged trees and to repair damaged wires.” Police ask people to not throw snow in the streets, which need to remain clear for emergency vehicles.
