A Medford man was arrested Friday afternoon for his alleged involvement in the attempted robbery of Century Bank in Everett on Thursday.

According to information released by Middlesex County District Attorney Gerry Leone, Robert Giannino, 34, of Medford, was arrested by Boston Police and was turned over to Everett Police, where he was charged with unarmed robbery.

Giannino’s alleged getaway driver, James Gordon Chase, 48, of Lynn, was also arrested and charged with unarmed robbery this afternoon. Chase was shot by a police officer during the chaos following the attempted robbery of a Route 16 Century Bank Thursday afternoon. Police say Chase accelerated toward an officer who was ordering him to stop the car. Chase still managed to drive off and he was later tracked down at an apartment building in Saugus.

Chase was hospitalized until Friday afternoon. Both Chase and Giannino were arraigned in Malden District Court on Monday and are being held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing on January 13.

The investigation into the bank robbery was conducted by Everett Police, State Police assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office and the FBI Bank Robbery Task Force. Per police protocol, the justification of the officer-involved shooting is being investigated by the District Attorney’s Office.
