Sophomore guard Sean Doncaster had thirty points and senior guard Danny Gilchrist twenty-one in the boys basketball team’s 102-71 victory over Pope John on Wednesday.

The Mustangs were a bit sluggish in the beginning and were trailing 51-48 at the end of the first half. Medford came out strong in the second half and never looked back, outscoring Pope John by thirty-four points.

Junior guard Maurice Magras added twelve points while junior forward Larry Keating had nine points, grabbing double digit rebounds and “playing a great game in the middle of Pope John’s zone,” said Head Coach Anthony Faradie.

The Mustangs forced thirty-nine turnovers while only turning the ball over eleven times. It was the first time in Coach Faradie’s four seasons as head coach that the team scored over 100 points.

Coach Faradie said the victory was a “total team effort.”

“I’m proud the way our kids came back and responded in the second half,” said Faradie.

Medford is 3-4 heading into Friday’s game at Everett. It is the first GBL game of the season.
