Boys Hockey Team to Dedicate Season to Tony Lucci

The boys varsity hockey team will dedicate the 2010-2011 season to Medford sports icon Tony Lucci. The dedication will take place on Saturday, January 8 at 6pm at LoConte Rink when the Mustangs take the ice against Somerville.

Lucci, who passed away last June, owned Medford Square Sporting Goods for more than fifty years, outfitting thousands of Medford Mustangs and doing business with professional sports teams.

In 2007 Lucci was inducted into the Massachusetts Hockey Hall of Fame for his “substantial and on-going contributions to his community.” He also has an award named after him that is given out every year to a deserving Mustang athlete at the annual M-Club Banquet. The Tony Lucci Golden Mustang award honors a person who has been an outstanding supporter of Medford High School sports. It is presented to someone who has made loyal and unselfish contributions to the student athletes at MHS.
