The Mustang boys soccer team was knocked out of the state tournament in the quarter final round after suffering a heartbreaking 3-2 loss to Greater Boston League archrival Somerville. Medford hosted George Scarpelli and his Highlanders under the lights on Wednesday in front of a large crowd. Somerville took the lead early and never lost it, despite a key goal by sophomore Jonathan Pires in the second half to put the Mustangs back in the game. Somerville will play in the semi-finals on Friday against Brookline at Arlington High School. Above, Coaches Mike Petrides and Mike Bourne talk to the team during the game. Photo courtesy Mike Cugno.
