Mustangs Come Close, Can’t Close Deal

Football Team Falls to Cambridge in OT, 20-14

The crowd was energized and reporters were making their way out of the press box when Medford was up, 14-7, over Cambridge with three seconds left in the game. The Mustangs were so close to their first win of the season but they let it slip away when the Falcons scored a touchdown, tying the game and sending it into overtime.

In overtime both teams started at the ten and had one possession. Medford was unable to score and Cambridge ended up scoring another touchdown, winning 20-14.

Medford’s first touchdown was scored in the first quarter by senior Ronnie Pitterson and junior Nick Olivier ran into the end zone for the two point conversion. The team’s second touchdown was scored by senior captain Nick Murphy with just seconds to go in the second quarter.

A big interception by junior DeStep Marcellus late in the fourth quarter stopped Cambridge’s offensive momentum, but the Mustang defense did not come through to seal the deal at the end of the game.

Medford has struggled all season after losing top senior talent last year. The young team will be looking for a win but faces tough competition in its final two games of the season. The Mustangs host Barnstable on Friday, November 12, the last home game and Senior Night. The team’s historic Thanksgiving Day match up will take place at 10:00AM on Thursday, November 25 in Malden.
