Royall House to Host Boston Tea Party Event

Defiance of the PatriotsThe Royall House and Slave Quarters will present its free Fall Program, entitled “Defiance of the Patriots: the Boston Tea Party and the Making of America” on Wednesday, November 17, at 7:30 p.m. at the Royall House and Slave Quarters, 15 George Street, Medford (right off Main Street). Tufts University Professor Benjamin Carp will be the speaker.

On December 16, 1773, Bostonians boarded 3 merchant ships and dumped more than 46 tons of tea into Boston Harbor. The Boston Tea Party was a daring and revolutionary act that set the stage for war. Author Benjamin Carp unveils the full story of this central event, exploding myths, exploring the unique city life of Boston, and setting this extraordinary act in a global context for the first time.

Admission is free (donations are gratefully accepted). Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for the Shop (and your Holiday shopping!) and our archaeological exhibit.

Copies of Professor Carp’s new book will be available for purchase.

Refreshments are served. Parking may be had on George Street or around the corner(s) on Main Street or College Avenue.

The central mission of the Royall House and Slave Quarters is to explore and present the “meanings of freedom and independence before, during and since the American Revolution, in the context of a household of wealthy Loyalists and enslaved Africans.”
