Boys, Girls Soccer to Open State Tourney at Home

Mustangs Have Home Field Advantage; Play Saturday

The Greater Boston League champion boys and girls soccer teams will open up the state tournament at home on Saturday.

The boys, who finished the season 11-2-5, are seeded 9th among twenty-six teams in North Division 1. The Mustangs will host GBL rival Everett (7-7-3) on Saturday at 6:00PM. The Crimson Tide is seeded 24th.

Everett did not score any goals against Medford when the teams met twice during the regular season. Medford won both matches, 1-0 and 2-0.

The winner of Saturday’s game will play either Brighton (11-3-1, 8th) or Billerica (8-8-2, 25th). Brighton and Billerica play each other Sunday, November 7, at 2:30PM.

All of the GBL teams qualified for the state tournament. Cambridge, 12-3-3, is seeded 10th and will play #23 seed Framingham on Saturday afternoon. Somerville, 9-5-4, received the 17th seed and will play #16 Community Academy (9-5-1) on Saturday. Number 22 Malden, 9-9-0, will play #11 Acton-Boxboro (11-3-3) on Saturday.

The Lady Mustangs finished with a 12-5-3 record and are seeded 12th among twenty-three teams. Medford hosts #21 Andover (8-8-2) at 2:30PM on Saturday afternoon. The winner of that match-up heads to #5 Acton-Boxboro (13-2-2) on Monday, November 8 at 6:30PM.

Everett and Somerville also qualified for some post-season action. Everett, 8-8-2, seeded 19th, will play #14 East Boston (9-6) on Saturday afternoon, while Somerville, 6-8-5, seeded 23rd, faces #10 Winchester (11-6) on Sunday afternoon.
