Tufts, Amherst Football Break Records in 70-49 Battle

The struggling 1-5 Tufts University football team almost handed top team Amherst College, so far undefeated in the NESCAC league, its first loss on Saturday in a wild game that ended with a 70-49 score in favor of Amherst.

Tufts led 35-28 at halftime despite scoring early and at one point leading 14-0. The Amherst Lord Jeffs shut down the Jumbos in the second half, scoring 35 points and only allowing two more touchdowns for Tufts in the fourth quarter.

In total, the game had 119 points and 1,303 yards of total offense. Tufts finished with a NESCAC and school-record 671 yards of offense.

Tufts senior quarterback Anthony Fucillo (Winthrop, MA), finished the game 42 of 63 with 503 passing yards and three touchdowns. He broke his own single game record of 356, which he set against Bowdoin earlier in the season. Fucillo also leads the Tufts football program for single season passing yardage with 1,880 yards so far this fall. Fucillo’s 503 passing yards and 522 total offensive yards also broke league records.

Tufts sophomore Dylan Haas (NY) had 205 yards receiving for the Jumbos, while junior Nick Falk (IL) led the Jumbos with 13 tackles.
