The Arlington Catholic Girls Cross Country team successfully defended their Catholic Central League title with a decisive 17 to 41 victory over Lowell Catholic on Friday on the Cougar’s home course. The girls are so far undefeated this season, with a 7-0 league record and a 9-0 overall record.

The Cougars also defeated a capable Medford squad in a non-league encounter by a score of 19 to 40 in the tri-meet home finale.

Freshman standout Kaitlin McCauley (Watertown) won the race by out-kicking sophomore teammate Janelle Solviletti (Billerica) by 2 seconds with an impressive time of 20:50. Medford’s outstanding senior Ericka Silva placed third while AC nabbed the fourth, fifth, and sixth places with senior captain Lauren Reiss (Arlington), junior captain Brigid Kirkpatrick (Medford), and Sarah D’Arangelo (Billerica) rounding out the Cougars’ scoring pack.

The AC boys also finished an outstanding season with a repeat second place league finish. The Cougars trounced Lowell Catholic 17 to 40 and also beat a strong Medford team 20 to 35. The Cougar boys are 6-1 in the league and 8-1 overall.

Senior captain Joe Donlon (Stoneham) once again led the charge with a winning time of 17:53. Donlon was followed by junior teammates Kyle Liberti (Medford) and Chris Laffey (Billerica) before Mustang runners Steven Mahoney and Connor McGovern broke up the Cougar pack in fourth and fifth place, respectively. Cougars Nolan Hart (Medford) and Andrew Cohen (Waltham) were sixth and eighth, with Medford freshman Sean Napier sneaking in to earn seventh place.

On Saturday the Cougars continued their winning ways in a non-league match up with Minuteman Tech. The girls earned a perfect score of 15, which in cross country is when a team earns the top five spots in the race, while the boys pulled out a close 25-30 victory.

Waltham juniors Becca Gonsalves-Lamontagne and Mary Stanton earned first and second place, followed by freshman Jessica Higgens (Peabody) in third, freshman Olivia Liberti (Medford) in fourth, freshman Jackie Joyce (Medford) in fifth, freshman Rene Gonsalves-Lamontange (Woburn) in sixth, freshman Olivia Steward (Medford) in ninth, and junior Jordan Amirault (Medford) in eleventh place.
