Medford to Pilot School Bus Safety Program

School bus stop signThinking about blowing through the stop sign on a school bus? Think again- Medford is piloting new technology that is intended to deter violations of school bus safety laws.

The new technology, offered by SmartBus Live, uses cameras and software to increase the overall safety of children riding, loading, and unloading school buses. The technology can be used to address both traffic safety issues and student bus conduct.

On Thursday, October 21, Mayor Michael McGlynn and School Superintendent Roy Belson will join Registry of Motor Vehicles chief Rachel Kaprielian to announce the pilot program at 1:30PM at the Andrews Middle School (3000 Mystic Valley Parkway).

A school bus equipped with SmartBus Live will be at the event to demonstrate the technology.
