The boys varsity soccer team handed Malden its second shut out loss to Medford of the season on Friday at Pine Banks.

The Mustangs topped Malden, 1-0, in this latest match-up and defeated them 4-0 earlier in the season.

Medford’s lone goal was scored by junior Gilbert Simas, with an assist by senior captain Cesar Silva. The goal was Gilbert’s first of his varsity career. Strong defense by the Mustangs held Malden’s offense at bay for the entire game.

The 7-1-3 Mustangs head to Billerica on Tuesday for their next game. Medford is currently undefeated in the Greater Boston League with four wins and two ties against Somerville and Cambridge.

The Lady Mustangs also defeated Malden on Friday. The girls played under the lights and shut out Malden 4-0. Jackie Pellechia had ten saves in the net for Medford, helping improve the team’s record to 7-2-1. Pellechia is the league’s top goalie, with six shut out victories.
