New MHS Fields Unveiled

‘Field of Dreams’ Ribbon-Cutting September 12

After more than three years of community organizing and fundraising, the Medford Field of Dreams project has finally been completed.

Medford’s Field of Dreams was officially dedicated as the Edgerly Sports Complex on Sunday, September 12 during a special community ceremony. It includes two turf fields suitable for soccer, lacrosse, football, baseball and softball. It has lighting, scoreboards and a renovated track. Bleachers, handicapped accessible bathrooms and a concession stand are on order.

“The Edgerly Sports Complex, as it will be called, is a joint partnership of citizens, neighbors, students and government. Students complained for years of having to practice on a field littered with rocks and debris. Parents came together on their behalf and formed the ‘Field of Dreams Committee.’ This complex came to pass because a group of citizens dreamed of what could be in our community. Through the efforts of hard work of so many, that dream became a reality, even in this tight fiscal time,” said Mayor McGlynn.

On Sunday community members were invited to the fields’ ribbon-cutting ceremony and got to see the new fields in action with soccer, football, and lacrosse players. A free lunch of hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, and drinks was provided by Kelly’s Roast Beef.

Medford’s Hank Morse (WROR 105.7) emceed and Athletic Director Bob Maloney hosted the event. MHS junior Kyla Middleton sang “The Star-Spangled Banner” and seniors Lisa, Laura, and Lindsey Bandoian delivered the Pledge of Allegiance. ELL Director and Assistant Elementary School Principal Diane Guarino delivered the invocation. Field of Dream Committee members Jay Cirame and Bill Carr, Jr. spoke on behalf of the committee. Senior soccer captain Katie O’Brien spoke on behalf of student athletes, and Mayor Michael McGlynn and School Superintendent Roy Belson also addressed the crowd.

The entire dedication ceremony is airing on Channel 15 in Medford at 6:30am, 10am, 1pm, 4pm, 6pm, and 9pm. Video highlights are also available below courtesy MHS-TV 15:
