Andre Chiefs Prepare for Playoffs

The First Round of the best of three Intercity League Playoffs got underway on Sunday with games in Wakefield and Watertown.

The Lexington Blue Sox and Andre Chiefs, by virtue of their respective first and second place regular season finishes, have first round byes.

The Chiefs hosted the Watertown on Wednesday but neither team scored, so the game was suspended until Thursday .

The Chiefs and the Reds will begin their best-of-three contest on Thursday, August 12, at Tufts at 5:30PM. The Chiefs will then visit Victory Field in Watertown on Friday, August 13 and Sunday, August 15, both at 7:00PM. If necessary it’s back to Tufts on Monday, August 16 for a 5:30PM game.

The Chiefs finished the regular season with a 19-9 record in second place in the league, while the Blue Sox secured the league’s top spot with a 24-8 record.

Jared Freni broke a team record with 17 K’s as the Chiefs clinched a playoff bye with a 3-0 win over the Mooney Dental Tanners in Woburn on Friday. Mike Andre led the way at the plate for the Chiefs with a triple, single and RBI. Phil Recco retired the first eleven Chiefs in a row and only allowed five hits in a strong losing effort.

Freni broke the previous Chiefs record held by Keith Forbes, who struck out 16 batters on July 1, 2007 against the Medford Americans.
