Medford Babe Ruth 13 Y/O All-Stars Defeat Arlington

Thirteen Year-Old All-Stars Win District 3 Championship

Medford Heads to State Tournament July 22

On Wednesday, June 30 the Medford Babe Ruth 13-year-old All-Stars squared off against Arlington for the final game of the District 3 Championship. Medford captured the District Championship game 8-7, with a walk off sacrifice bunt that scored the winning run.

Playing Arlington for the second time in four days Medford knew they would need great pitching, defense and timely hitting to move on to the State Tournament. The great pitching came from the arm of Medford starter Justin Alley. Alley recorded 12 strikeouts and only allowed four hits as he went the distance for the win. Defensively for Medford, catcher Steve DiMauro gunned down two runners attempting to steal second base. Left fielder Andrew Modugno teamed up with shortstop Kyle Boudrias to throw out the potential tying run at third base. An inning later, right fielder Derek Mecrones made a nice play throwing out another runner at second base.

On the offensive side for Medford, Boudrias went three for four with three RBI’s. Andrew Cronin came up with a big hit, as his fifth inning triple scored DiMauro with the go ahead run. Eric Spinale also picked up two key hits and scored three runs in the game.

Tthe late game heroics started with the first batter of the last inning, Adam Auditore, who reached base via a walk, and the second hitter of the inning, Bob Rockwell, doubled to move Auditore to third base. Medford second baseman Brett Mecrones then executed a perfect bunt to the right side to easily score the winning run.

Medford’s 13 year Old All-Stars will now move on to play in the State Tournament on July 22 in Quincy.
