The Medford High School girls lacrosse team has received the 2010 Division 1 Girls’ Lacrosse Sportsmanship Award.

According to the MIAA website, team sportsmanship awards are presented at the state championship final of every MIAA sponsored sport to a worthy team in each division of competition. The awards are presented to those teams who have demonstrated a sincere commitment to the highest ideals and objectives of sportsmanship during their season of play. Teams can be nominated for this award by coaches, athletic directors and principals.

“To be recognized by the MIAA as a team that displays sportsmanship and character is quite an accomplishment. This award is presented by the lacrosse committee of the MIAA, and it is nice that people outside of the team see how hard we work day in and day out. These girls have worked tirelessly to play as a team. They always play fair and show respect for all of their opponents,” said Head Coach Matt Galusi.

“I am so proud of these girls and this is just a cherry on top of what was already an incredible season. They should all be beaming with pride, as I know that I am as their coach. I hope the community understands what a tremendous honor this is. We are in very select company now, and I don’t think it could happen to a nicer, more classy group of girls. To my graduating seniors: You have all made your mark and cemented your place in MHS Girl’s Lax history,” said Coach Galusi.

“It’s a great accomplishment to one of our hardest working programs at Medford High School. Hats off to Coach Galusi, his staff and the great sudent athletes!” Said Athletic Director Bob Maloney.
