Girls Tennis Hosts State Tournament Match June 7

Head Coach Ellie Brady-O’Leary and the varsity girls tennis team will begin state tournament action on Monday, June 7.

The team finished the season 11-3 and due to the strength of its record, has received a bye in the preliminary round of the state tournament and will host their first match on Monday afternoon at 3:30PM at Duggar Park.

The Mustangs, seeded 3rd among 19 teams in the North Division 2, will face the winner of a match between Triton (14th, 9-7) and Tewksbury (19th, 4-10).

The Lady Mustangs are coming off a strong season in which they went 5-1 in the Greater Boston League and shared the GBL title with Cambridge. It’s the first time since 1978 Medford has topped the GBL in girls tennis.

Cambridge, 12-6, is seeded 10th and also received a bye in the preliminary round. The Falcons will play 7th seed Reading (13-5) on Friday.

The varsity girls team includes senior captain Olivia Hegner (1st Singles), senior captain Kate Froysa (1st Doubles), senior captain Dee Cedrone (2nd Doubles), junior Emily Nixon (2nd Singles), sophomore Katie Bowler (3rd Singles), junior Stephanie Nguyen, sophomore Michelle Nguyen, and freshman Bailey Lee.
