Girls Lax Earns Best Record in Team History

Strong Record Gives Mustangs Home Advantage in State Tourney

Medford Hosts Haverhill Saturday Morning at Hormel

The girls varsity lacrosse program at Medford High School has been around for just over a decade, and this year the team, 12-4, boasts the best record in program history.

“I’m really proud of these girls. They’ve battled all year,” said Coach Galusi.

Medford’s most recent victory came against Haverhill in 90 degree heat on Tuesday afternoon. The Mustangs topped Haverhill 14-10, but Coach Galusi said the score doesn’t really reflect the game the team played. The team “dominated for three quarters” of the game, but “gave up some easy goals” at the end, which Coach Galusi attributes to playing in the heat.

Despite faltering at the end, Coach Galusi credits the team for its amazing effort.

“Everyone played, everyone contributed,” said Galusi.

Senior captain Lauren O’Connor led the team with four goals and two assists. Maddie Forcier had three goals and two assists. Senior captain Francesca Alfonso had two goals and two assists, while freshman Katherine Timmins had two goals and one assist. Ericka Silva and Leanna Bordonaro netted one goal each.

The Mustangs, undefeated GBL champions for the second consecutive season, are state tournament bound. Their impressive record has earned them home field advantage, and Medford will host Haverhill, a team they beat twice during the regular season, in the preliminary round of the state tournament on Saturday, May 29 at 11:00AM at Hormel Stadium.

The winner of that game will head to Lincoln-Sudbury (14-4) for a 5:00PM game on Tuesday, June 1.
