Hallmark Health Stride for Health June 6

Stride for HealthHallmark Health to host third annual Stride for Health

Hallmark Health System, which includes Lawrence Memorial Hospital of Medford and Melrose-Wakefield Hospital, will host the third annual Stride for Health walk on Sunday, June 6, 5 p.m., at Lake Quannapowitt in Wakefield.

Proceeds from this year’s walk will provide CPR training and choke-saving skills to10th and 11th grade students in Malden, Medford, Melrose, Stoneham and Wakefield. Once students have completed their school-based training, they will pledge to train at least three family members using the life-saving kit provided to them. Statistics have shown that communities with residents trained in CPR and choke-saving skills have a dramatic impact on saving lives.

Cindy Campbell, the SmartRoutes traffic reporter for WCVB-TV’s “Eyeopener” morning newscast and a Melrose native, will be the event’s Honorary Chairperson. She has been the traffic reporter since 1995 and was also the director of operations at SmartRoute systems and managed the 511 traveler system. Previously, Campbell worked as an award-winning anchor, reporter and video producer in the cable industry for 10 years.

Campbell, who has a strong commitment to the community, supports the lifesaving effect this year’s walk will have on countless lives. She said she’s excited about walking the 3-mile loop around Lake Quannapowitt and hopes there is lots of foot traffic that evening in support of Hallmark Health.

This year’s sunset walk features something for the whole family – music, face painting, a “sole searching” scavenger hunt, massage and a light picnic dinner by the lake. The first 500 walkers will receive a free T-shirt and a backpack of goodies.

Those who want to participate but cannot make it on June 6 can still support Hallmark Health by registering as a virtual walker. Virtual walkers take part in the Stride for Health without ever having to leave their home. All that is needed is a computer to raise funds quickly and easily online. Virtual walkers and walkers can also join or create a virtual team or join a team participating on walk day and be part of a team challenge. The registration fee of $10 will be waived for all virtual walkers. Virtual walkers raising $100 in pledges will receive a free T-shirt.
