New Boys Lacrosse Head Coach Mike Engel is proud of his team and the progress they have made this season.

The team currently has a record of 10-4, the best record they’ve had in about six years, said Coach Engel. They went undefeated in the GBL with four wins and posted non-league wins against Northbridge, Melrose, Saugus, Marian and Lynn.

The Mustangs have qualified for the state tournament and will know their seeding sometime at the end of this week. The last time the boys lacrosse team made it to the state tournament was 2006.

Medford defeated visiting Melrose 11-7 under the lights at Hormel Stadium on Monday night. Jack Forcier had four goals and Stephen Aghiarian had five. Aghiarian is on pace to break the single season scoring record with 46 goals.

Coach Engel also credited other Mustangs who contributed to the team’s victory.

“Kam Howard played very well in the goal. Ryan McCarthey continues to develop into a legit midfielder. He is only a sophomore and will only get better,” said Coach Engel.

The Mustangs host Danvers on Tuesday, May 25 at 3:45pm and head to Brookline on Wednesday, May 26 for a 4:00pm game to close out the regular season.
