A local Medford dance group known as “Da Set” will be hosting a hip-hop showcase on Friday May 28th that will include local music and dance talents such as Furious George, N.N.B, Fuego, T-Rizzy, and Fishers Crew.

“I’m excited to be having the show again because a last year was such a success,” said ‘Da Set’ member Melina Stein. “We’re having a variety of performances, so there’s something for everybody.”

Along with Melinda, ‘Da Set’ members Tyler Brathwaite, MVTHS class president, and MHS alumni Stephanie Williams and Tianna Richardson have organized what should be a highly entertaining show, which is scheduled to take place at Medford’s Springstep’s dance studio.

“I’m the leader of ‘Da Set’ and I’m the main organizer of the event,” said Brathwaite. “It’s been tough pulling everything together but once you see the crowd’s reaction it’s all worth it.”

The group has spent months trying to put this show together in order to reach their goal of promoting local dance groups as well as demonstrating the talent that Medford has to offer. The dance group is hoping for an even bigger crowd than last year and they’ve organized enough performers to satisfy each critic’s taste.

“I can’t wait to perform,” said MHS senior Nick Bates, lead singer of Furious George. “This will be a great opportunity for people to support each other for their talents.”

Although there is an expected large turnout of the event, the proceeds will mainly be used to reimburse the group for the cost of renting the studio. Tickets are $5 at the door; children under 12 are free.

Doors open at 6:00pm and the show runs from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. Springstep is located at 98 George P. Hassett Drive in Medford (right next to Medford City Hall).
