Walk for Inspiration a Huge Success

Malden and Medford softball players, including MHS senior captain Nicole Lopilato, walk the track together during Sunday’s Walk for Inspiration.

The Medford Softball team would like to thank everyone who was a part of Sunday’s Walk for Inspiration. The event raised more than expected and donations are still being collected. Thank you to those who walked, jogged, volunteered, made donations, and provided support. The event was such a success because our community really came together- thank you!

A special thank you to Mr. Maloney, Ms. Donlon, Ms. Trainor, Ms. Porter, Mr. Mahoney, Mr. O’Keefe, Mr. Scarpelli, Ms. Van der Kloot, and other school community members who attended the event.

The Walk benefited a Medford High student who recently underwent brain surgery and has limited insurance coverage for a number of upcoming radiation treatments and the MHS Softball Program, which is in much need of funding.

An extraordinary show of classy sportsmanship took place at the Walk. The entire Malden High School Varsity Softball team showed up at Hormel Stadium to support the former Medford softball player and their arch rivals, the Medford Lady Mustangs, by walking with the girls around the track.

Medford parents, friends and softball players were overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity of the Malden Softball team.

“As Director of the event and Head Varsity Coach of Medford I can’t say enough about the Malden girls and the impact it had on the Medford community,” said Coach Jack Dempsey.

Medford and Malden had a game the following day on Monday afternoon. Despite a Malden 6-3 victory, the Mustangs had cupcakes to thank the Golden Tornadoes for their generosity.
