Red-Tailed Hawks Nest Behind Medford Billboard

Parent Hawks Attack When Officials Remove Nest with Chicks

Officials tangled with red-tailed hawks when attempting to remove a controversial billboard on Route 93 in Medford on Tuesday.

Video from Fox25 News shows the hawks swooping in and attacking officials from Mass Wildlife who were trying to remove the hawks’ nest with baby hawks.

Medford Mayor Michael McGlynn, who witnessed the hawks on the attack, said federal law prevents disturbing nests with eggs and chicks. According to Fox25, Mass Wildlife received a permit from the federal government to remove the hawks.

Mass Wildlife officials were able to remove the nest and three chicks, who will be raised in another environment.

The billboard was an advertisement for juice drink Pom and showed a picture of the drink with a noose around it and said “Cheat Death.” The message angered suicide prevention advocates.
