The Mustang girls varsity lacrosse team pulled out a double digit victory for their last home game of the season.

Medford beat Essex Agricultural Technical Institute 13-7 at Hormel Stadium Monday afternoon and became only the second Mustang girls lacrosse team to record double digit wins.

“That’s a pretty good accomplishment right there,” said Head Coach Matt Galusi.

Olivia Timmins led all Mustang scorers with three goals and two assists. Junior center Kathleen Harding recorded her first goal of the season.

“We’re very proud of her. She played a great game,” said Coach Galusi.

Harding’s goal is evident of how the entire team came together yet again to pull out another win.

“Top to bottom, everyone played, everyone contributed,” said Coach Galusi. “I know I say it all the time but, these girls, I’m so proud of them. They gotta keep it going.”

On Wednesday the Mustangs had a big game against Central Catholic, a team that beat them earlier in the season. Even though Medford was looking for payback they were not able to come up with a win.

Coach Galusi explains:

“There is a saying that into everyone’s life a little rain must fall- last night it poured! We lost 12-7, a respectable score, but we were physically beaten last night. Central is a skilled, aggressive team. Very talented top to bottom and they came ready to play. We had a slow start and never recovered. I feel that our girls were a little intimidated by the Central team and their aggressive style of play. The game was full of penalties, by both teams, and was not typical of Medford Girls lacrosse. But hey, it happens,” said Coach Galusi.

Coach Galusi praised his team for their efforts, including goalie Rachel Keen, for “standing strong in the net,” Jamie DeRosas, Breanna Hughes and Deanna Cavallaro for playing terrific defense, and Mady Forcier, Olivia Timmins, Lauren O’Connor and Katherine Timmins for providing all the offense.

In addition, Coach Galusi said the “game ball award” goes to freshman Katherine Timmins, who scored two goals and played extensive minutes.

“This was an outstanding game for her and I am so pleased at how she is coming along,” said Coach Galusi.

The Mustangs are currently 10-4 and head to Lowell on Saturday morning for a 10 AM game. The team finishes up the season on May 24 at Haverhill and then prepares for the state tourney.
