It was Senior Night Wednesday night under the lights at Hormel Stadium and the seniors on the girls varsity lacrosse team stepped up big, contributing ten of the Mustangs’ thirteen goals.

Senior Leanne Bordonaro led all scorers with a whopping five goals. Senior captains Lauren O’Connor and Mary Barber also had multiple goals, netting two and three goals, respectively.

Defensively, it was the sophomores who came through against Wednesday’s 13-8 victory over Gloucester. Brianna Hughes, Deanna Cavallaro and Jamie DeRosas all provided solid defense for the Mustangs, while sophomore goalie Rachel Keen was “huge” in the net, said head coach Matt Galusi.

In addition, juniors Madie Forcier and Ericka Silva continued to deliver for the Mustangs, with Forcier netting two goals and Silva scoring one.

“Again, it was a total team effort. We’re rolling,” said Coach Galusi. “I say it all the time but I couldn’t be prouder of this team. This is the best team I’ve ever coached.”

The win puts Medford at 9-3 overall (4-0 in the Greater Boston League). They have four games left and would like to win them all so they don’t “limp in” to the state tournament with a record barely above .500 and a bottom seeding.

The last home game is Monday, May 10 against Essex Agricultural Technical Institute, a team Medford beat earlier in the season. The Mustangs will be away on Wednesday, May 12, Thursday, May 13, and Saturday, May 15 competing against Central Catholic, Haverhill, and Lowell, respectively. The Mustangs were unsuccessful against Central Catholic earlier in the season and will be looking for a win this time, and they beat Haverhill when they last faced the team.
