Medford Farm-to-School Community Dinner June 11

Community Dinner
June 11, 2010
5:30 PM
Andrews Middle School
3000 Mystic Valley Parkway, Medford, MA

Medford School Food Services, students from Tufts University’s Tisch Scholar program, consultants from the Massachusetts Farm to School Program, Medford parents, and others will gather together to launch a Farm-to-School Initiative for the school children by hosting a city-wide, Community Dinner kick-off event!

The project includes the integration of locally sourced products such as produce (principally from Lanni Orchards) into the school breakfast and lunch menus and the creation of future schoolyard gardens.

The event will include dinner and dessert prepared with locally sourced ingredients. There will be a panel composed of local farmers, representatives from the Massachusetts Farm-to-School Program and Medford residents, among others to speak briefly and be there to answer any questions. This is a city-wide event to be held at the Andrews Middle School for logistical reasons.

There will also be informational materials on food origin and sustainability, recipes, and activities for the children relating to gardening (such as planting seeds in milk cartons).

Tickets are available at no cost through the Medford School Food Service office starting May 10th. Eileen DiBattista’s PEP Grant funds the cost of the dinner; this was budgeted for when she wrote the grant. There will be no cost to the families to attend this dinner.

For tickets please call 781-393-2241. Limited availability, based on number of people living in the household. Attendees must have a pre-arranged ticket to enter.
