The girls varsity lacrosse team has earned its second consecutive undefeated Greater Boston League title.

The Lady Mustangs, 4-0 in the GBL and 8-3 overall, earned the GBL title after Friday’s 12-5 victory over Cambridge.

Lauren O’Connor was Medford’s top scorer, with five goals and one assist. Olivia Timmins had four goals and two assists, while Madie Forcier, Francesca Alfonso, and Mary Barber netted one goal each.

Head Coach Matt Galusi also credited sophomore goalie Rachel Keen for her defense.

“Rachel was solid when we need her in the net,” said Coach Galusi.

On Saturday the Mustangs followed their Cambridge win and GBL title with an 11-8 victory over Dracut.

Eight different Mustangs scored and Coach Galusi was pleased with the “true team effort” displayed by the girls.

“I am just so proud of this team. This is such a tremendous team win,” said Coach Galusi.

O’Connor, Forcier, and Barber netted two goals each. Timmins, Alfonso, Ericka Silva, Leanne Bordonaro, and freshman Catherine Timmins each had one goal.

Coach Galusi also praised Keen for another clutch performance in the goal.

“Rachel Keen was insane. She just stopped shot after shot and really kept us in the game,” said Galusi.

It was Jamie DeRosas who had the play of the game, according to Coach Galusi. Late in the game DeRosas deflected a Dracut pass, picked up the ball, and ran down the field with it, which allowed Medford to run out the clock.

Friday’s Cambridge game was the last GBL match-up of the season for Medford. The team has only two more home games on Wednesday, May 5 and Monday, May 10 against Gloucester and Essex Agricultural Technical Institute, both of which they’ve beaten. Wednesday’s game will be under the lights at 7:00pm at Hormel Stadium and the team’s seniors will be honored in a special Senior Night ceremony.

The Mustangs will be away on Wednesday, May 12, Thursday, May 13, and Saturday, May 15 competing against Central Catholic, Haverhill, and Lowell, respectively. The Mustangs were unsuccessful against Central Catholic earlier in the season and will be looking for a win this time, and they beat Haverhill when they last faced the team.
