Free Weekend of Art, Music, & Culture in West Medford

2010 West Medford Open Studios

As the magnolias come into full bloom and people begin taking neighborhood strolls again, spring also signals the return of a lively arts event to the community of West Medford. The West Medford Open Studios is an exciting, free weekend of art, literature, music, and community festivity, and will take place on May 8 & 9 from noon to 5pm.

Now in its 11th year, WMOS has continued to grow rapidly. “From mosaics and turned wood to an urbanfolk/blues band and spoken word, this year the event has more variety then ever” says WMOS board member, David Chia. This year WMOS has over 65 artists participating at 29 sites throughout West Medford. Locations include community buildings, homes, and studios around the neighborhood. Using a WMOS map, visitors have the opportunity to explore all the sites at their leisure throughout the weekend.

The range of visual art will include paintings, glasswork, jewelry, mosaics, ceramics, furniture, turned wood, photography, textiles, hand bound books and more. Over the years the WMOS has expanded to include performing artists as well as visual artists of different varieties. Highlights of the weekend will include lively musical performances by a gospel choir and an urban folk band. There will also be scheduled readings of original material by local writers. In the community and beyond, it has become a much anticipated arts event.

So don’t miss out on this free celebration of the arts. Enjoy a lovely neighborhood stroll as you look at beautiful art, listen to live music, chat about a painting, and have some snacks along the way as you enjoy another exciting weekend at the West Medford Open Studios!
