Mustang Basketball Pulls Out Big Win Over Somerville

First GBL Win for Mustangs in 2 Years

Medford 59, Somerville 55

Head Coach Anthony Faradie and the varsity boys basketball team pulled out a huge 59-55 victory over Somerville Tuesday night that went right down to the buzzer. The teams’ win was its first Greater Boston League win in two years.

According to Coach Faradie, the Mustangs got off to a very slow start at the beginning and went down 22-10. Medford had a big 2nd quarter and limited Somerville to only 5 points. The score was 19-9 at the end of the first quarter and the Mustangs were up 29-24 at the end of the half.

Andrew White had 20 points and Kadeem Smith had 10 points in the game, while Somerville’s Franklin Salvador had 29 points.

“The difference was we had 10 guys that scored opposed to them only having 5. We had big points from our bench,” said Coach Faradie.

With 27 seconds left Medford was up 57-52. Somerville’s Salvador hit a big 3 with 18 seconds left and then the Mustangs were only up two. Medford’s Smith then responded with four huge pressure free throws. Smith went to the line 4 times in the last 30 seconds of the game and knocked them all down, sealing the victory for the Mustangs.
