Local residents are helping their neighbors after a devastating weekend fire left dozens homeless in Malden.

The Malden Girl Scouts, Malden City Councilors, and Friends of Oak Grove, Inc. will be holding a drive for the fire victims of 503-505 Pleasant Street. The Girl Scouts will be at the Oak Grove Community Building, 6 Grove Street in Malden on Saturday, January 16th from 11:00-1:00pm
collecting donations.

Donations of gift cards are most in need now to help victims buy food and replace household items. Gift cards from places such as Walgreens, Shaw’s, Stop and Shop, etc. would be useful, according to organizers.

Monetary donations will also help and check can be made out to two organizations and dropped off at the following locations:

American Red Cross, Malden Fire Victims, 139 Main Street, Cambridge, MA, 02142

Salvation Army, Malden Fire Victims, 213 Main Street, Malden, 02148

Organizers say they do not have the storage space to collect household items at this time, so gift cards and monetary donations are encouraged. There will be future collections for those items, which can be dropped off at the Malden DPW on Commercial Street.
