Lady Mustangs Run Strong at Freshmen-Sophomore Meet

The younger members of the girls varsity track team pulled out a strong performance at the annual Auerbach Freshman-Sophomore Track Meet on Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Track Center in Boston.

The invitational track meet features athletes from all over the state. Medford sophomore track star Ariana Fiorello finished third place in the 55 meter dash. Fiorello’s finishing time was 7.62 seconds, just .2 seconds off the winning time by Newton North’s Carla Forbes. Fiorello also placed seventh in the long jump with an impressive jump of 14 feet, 7 inches.

According to Head Coach Jack Dempsey, Fiorello’s dash time was the third fastest of the two days of competition.

Medford freshman shot putter Christine Lynch placed 21st with a throw of 24 feet, 3 inches. Freshman Lauren Walsh leaped 4 feet, 4 inches in the high jump, placing in the top 30 jumpers. Sophomore Amanda Goguen ran a strong 6:39 mile and finished in the top 50.
