Girls Track Team Victorious in First Meet of Winter Season

New Head Coach Jack Dempsey and the Medford High School Girls Winter track team opened the Greater Boston League season with a decisive victory over the Everett Crimson Tide by a score of 61 to 25 at Everett High School Thursday evening.

The Lady Mustangs took first place honors in seven of the ten events. It was a clean sweep in the 55 meter hurdles with Senior Anya Pierre -Louis, junior Deanna Cavallaro and sophomore Madie Forcier running 1,2,3. The 600 meter run also featured a Mustang sweep, with sophomore Jamie Derosas winning, followed by junior Lauren Bandoian and freshman Nicole Avella 3rd. In the 55 meter dash it was a 1,2 finish with sophomore Ariana Fiorello winning, followed closely by senior Jasmyn Hawkins.

In the High Jump Hawkins tied for 1st place with senior teammate Aine Collins. The 1000 meter run was won by senior Mackenzie Flynn while sophomore Amanda Goguen was victorious in the 1-mile run, with junior Taylor Mason finishing 3rd.

Juniors Lindsey and Lisa Bandoian finished 2nd and 3rd in the – mile run, as did freshmen Lauren Walsh and Izzie Kingsbury in the 300 meter run. In the shot put junior Sam Rodriguez placed 2nd.

The 4 x 400 meter relay team took top honors, with Hawkins, Walsh, Derosas and Flynn leading the way.
