Arnold Leads Way for Buckeyes; Buckeyes, Tar Heels Undefeated at 4-0

Junior League (grades 3-5)

Buckeyes 14, Red Storm 8 – The Buckeyes got six points from Rhiannon Arnold to defeat the Red Storm, 14-8. Arnold recorded a pair of field goals in the first half as the Buckeyes forged a slim 8-6 lead. Emma Czwakiel chipped in with four points while Daniela Bencid and Mya Matarazzo each netted a basket to help the Buckeyes remain undefeated at 4-0. Hailee Farrel scored a team-high six points and Lindsey Martins chipped in with two points for the Red Storm.

Celtics 8, Eagles 4 – After taking a 6-2 halftime lead the Celtics hung on for the win in a low scoring affair. Leanne Durham snapped a 2-2 tie with about eight minutes left in the opening stanza to supply the Celtics (3-1) with a lead they would never relinquish. Shannon Hardy scored the last four points of the contest for the Celtics. Grace Capuccio and Nicole Matarazzo were the scorers for the Eagles (1-3).

Friday night action

Celtics 9, Red Storm 4 – Coleen Hardy lead the way with five points for the Celtics, who outscored the Red Storm 6-2 in the second half to seal the victory. Shannon Smith and Shannon Hardy each recorded a basket in the second half for the Celtics. Destiny Fitzgerald and Hailee Farel were the scorers for the Red Storm.

Buckeyes 16, Crush 13 – Rhiannon Arnold scored a game-high 10 points in what turned out to be the “game of the weekend” helping the Buckeyes edge the Crush. Six of Arnolds points came in the first half when Daniela Bencid scored all four of her points providing the Buckeyes with a 10-8 advantage at the break. The Crush got a pair of field goals from Emma Cline and Abby McCarthy while Abigail Cline added three points in the loss for the Crush.

Senior League (grades 6-8)

Dragons 22, Nets 6 – The Dragons got baskets from seven players en route to an easy 22-6 victory over the Nets. Paulina Petras finished with seven points and Elana Branley finished with five points for the Dragons (3-1), who jumped out to a 14-0 lead. Nicole Regan scored all six points for the Nets (1-3), who were playing without several members of their squad.

Tar Heels 34, Angles 27 – Kelly Foley nailed a three point shot at the buzzer to pull the Angels to within two points at halftime but the Tar Heels’ up tempo style proved to be too much to handle in the 34-27 victory. Foley finished with a dozen points in the contest, including another late three in the final minute of the game and Jessica Brennan played a solid game finishing with nine points for the Angels, who a still searching for their first win. Siobhan Turner scored 12 of her game-high 17 points in the second half for the Tar Heels, who improved to 4-0. Raniece Turner and Deanna Hardy also played well in the game, finishing with nine and eight points respectively.
