The following is an announcement from the Medford Colts Pop Warner Cheerleaders:

The Medford Colts Jr. Midget cheerleaders recently competed in the National Cheer and Dance Championship competition held at the Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida on Wednesday, December 9, 2009. They competed against 12 other teams from across the country and they walked away with a 1st place National Title!

The girls competed in a total of 4 competitions within New England before advancing on to the National Championship. In October they were crowned Greater Boston League Champions and Eastern Mass Champions. In November they took 2nd at the Qualifiers Competition and 2nd at the New England Regionals Competition, while the Everett Huskies took 1st at both competitions. Both GBL cities represented New England very well in the National Championship.

Most girls on this team began cheerleading for Medford at the age of seven, and with some of the girls moving on to Medford High School next year this was something that they are very proud of because they accomplished their goal. They began working towards this goal in August, cheering 4 days a week, 2 and a half hours a night. Once September came around, they practiced 3 days a week for 2 hours. They practiced during sickness and injuries – these are 17 very young, very dedicated cheerleaders and they deserved this title.

The Medford Pop Warner Board can not be more proud than they are right now. We want to make sure the girls know that everyone at home is very proud of them. This is the 4th title that the Medford Colts have brought home. Previous titles brought home to Medford include: 1991 Jr. Midgets, 1996 Midgets, 2004 Midget Advanced Large and now 2009 Jr. Midget Intermediate Small.

These girls would not be where they are today without the help of their 3 great coaches! Head Coach: Meghan Caprio and Assistant Coaches: Nancy Coppi and Nicole Walsh. Also, they send many thanks to their 2 squad mothers who were at every practice, competition and game helping the girls out with whatever they needed: Jodie Coyne and Tracy Ivey. Finally, thank you to the Cheering Director: Michele Cruciotti and Medford President: Steve Cloutier.

Finally, Medford Colts would like to give a special thank you to the faculty at the St. Clement’s School for allowing us to use their gym to practice in throughout the season and also the faculty at the Brook’s school for allowing us into their gym the last week of practice.

Registrations for the 2010 Football and Cheerleading Season will be held soon. For additional information regarding the 2010 season, please contact Michele and Steve at medfordpopwarner@aol.com.
