On Saturday October 10th, the Greater Boston Police Softball League held its Sixth Annual Police Softball Tournament. The Tournament was hosted by the Medford Police Softball Team and it took place at Tufts Park in South Medford. The event was once again sponsored by the LoPriore Insurance Agency. This year’s participants were from the Arlington Police Department, Burlington Police Department, Malden Police Department, MBTA Police Association, Medford Police Department, Saugus Police Department, Somerville Police Department, and Woburn Police Department. The Saugus Police defeated the Malden Police in the finals capturing the Tournament Championship for the sixth year in a row.

For the fourth consecutive year, participating Departments helped raise monies that were used to purchase goods that went into a care package that was sent to United States Troops serving in Iraq. This year’s care package was sent to the 101st Engineering Battalion from Massachusetts. The package was put together through the efforts of Medford Police Lieutenant Kevin Faller and Patrolmen Joe Byrnes, Charles Hartnett, Rory Lockowitz, and Roberto Luongo. Officers Byrnes, Hartnett, Lockowitz and Luongo are all United States Veterans.

The package contained several items such as tobacco products, phone cards, coffee, candy, and non perishable food items. Dunkin Donuts also donated coffee cups and lids to the package. Tufts Square Tobacco Shop of South Medford and James P. Duffy Company of Charlestown both made sizable donations that helped make this effort a tremendous success.
