‘Tis the Season to Give Locally

snowman1.jpgNearly everyone this holiday season is feeling financially squeezed, which is why it’s more important than ever to remember the adage “Charity begins at home.” Below are just a few ways Medfordites can help out their neighbors this holiday season. During these tough economic times, the City of Medford is hosting a number of drives to assist those in need. Any and all help is greatly appreciated, said Lisa Evangelista in the Mayor’s office.

Food Donations: A number of families have contacted City Hall to assist them with food for the holidays. If anyone would like to make donations of food or a financial donation that will be used to purchase food for these families, please contact Diane McLeod, Diversity Director, at (781) 393-2501. Non perishable food donations can be left with her during regular business hours in Room 214 of City Hall.

Coats and Warm Clothing Donations: Gently used coats and other clothing such as scarves, hats, gloves, sweaters, are being collected for homeless veterans in the Veterans Office of Room 100 of Medford City Hall and other locations. Donations are due by November 30th.

U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots Campaign: Donations of new, unwrapped toys are being collected in the Mayor’s Office, Room 202, Medford City Hall for the December 2, 2009 Holiday Celebration.

Toy Donations for Medford Housing Authority: Donations of new, unwrapped toys are being collected at the Medford Housing Authority, 121 Riverside Avenue, for residents living in the housing authority.
