The Mustang football team barely eked out a hard-fought victory against Greater Boston League rival Cambridge on Friday night, edging the Falcons 43-42.

Senior captain Giovanni Sanders and senior RB/DB Phil Chery were the stars of the night. Sanders ran for three touchdowns for the Mustangs and Chery ran for two, including the last-minute winning touchdown followed by a 2-point conversion that lifted Medford over Cambridge.

Sanders’ touchdowns including a dazzling 51-yard pass from QB Alex Krasco in the second quarter, while Chery scored the winning touchdown on a 16-yard run and ran for the 2-point conversion with less than two minutes left in the game to seal the victory for the Mustangs.

Junior Rob Deluca and senior De’Andre Williams also scored touchdowns for Medford.

The Mustangs are currently 2-1 in the GBL and 4-4 overall. They host non-leaguer Ipswich under the lights on Friday, November 13 at Hormel Stadium and also host Malden at 10AM on Thanksgiving Day for the annual Turkey Day classic. Medford will be looking for a win as they have lost the past two years to the Golden Tornadoes.
