Mustang Soccer Edges MC, 1-0

Lone Goal Scored in Last Minute of Game

Head Coach Mike Petrides and the varsity boys soccer team edged Malden Catholic, 1-0, in a close game on Monday, with Medford scoring at the last minute.

The Mustang’s dominated the second half of the game, culminating in a goal in the 90th minute of regulation play. The lone goal scorer for the Mustangs was sophomore John Dumbuya, with an assist from senior captain Ariel Lobo.

Medford’s defense was tremendous, shutting down any offensive attack from the Lancers. The defensive effort was lead by senior captain Phil Petrides, Rico Altema, Oscar Jacob and junior captain and goalie Marcello Cugno.

The 4-4-4 Mustangs hope to keep their record at 500 in order to qualify for post-season action in the state tournament. They host Dracut on Thursday and Billerica on Saturday.
