City Council Candidate Robert Maiocco

Robert MaioccoCouncilor Maiocco Announces Candidacy for Re-Election

City Councillor Robert A. Maiocco is a candidate for re-election to the Medford City Council in the November 3 municipal election.

In announcing his candidacy, Maiocco said his focus on protecting the city’s neighborhoods would continue. He cited his recent efforts that he said would insure that foreclosed residential properties be maintained up to neighborhood standards. “We have seen instances where foreclosed properties were boarded up and allowed to deteriorate much to the chagrin of neighbors. This will no longer be allowed under my new ordinance.”

Maiocco also pointed to his proposed ordinance, now being considered by the Council, which would offer protection against unsightly graffiti that is increasingly defacing local neighborhoods. “Graffiti is another problem that has to be controlled and my ordinance provides for relief to local properties,” Counc. Maiocco said.

Maiocco said his insistence that the city be prudent in its spending of tax dollars, that homeowners and condominium owners are assessed fairly and that the tax rate is an honest one will continue. “The adoption of a single water-sewer rate and a billing system that is consumption based (use less, pay less) is another of my priorities,” he continued. Maiocco said that those communities that have adopted that system are experiencing fairer water-sewer bills for their ratepayers.

Also, Maiocco cited his continuing efforts to ease the tax burden by expanding the city’s tax base through desired new development. He pointed to the Station Landing development adjacent to the MBTA Wellington Station as a successful example. “My education, training and long experience in finance are invaluable to me in dealing with the city’s fiscal and tax issues,” he advised.

Counc. Maiocco listed some of the major matters that he has always included in his Council agenda:

  • Additional parking spaces throughout the city, a new Medford Square garage. Cleanup of shopping areas and local streets.
  • Provide fully for Medford’s public library needs.
  • Give strong support to upgrading our schools, providing state-of-the-art educational facilities.
  • Constant push for meeting the needs of our senior citizens, the handicapped and those in need. As a former member of the Council on Aging, I am aware of the special problems of our elders.
  • Protect open space and historic sites and structures. Assure environmental preservation. Push for more safe bicycle and walking paths.
  • Maintain a high level of public safety for all our people through adequate staffing and equipment for our fire and police departments. Increase traffic enforcement especially accident-prone intersections and busy crosswalks.

In concluding, Maiocco said, “My service on the Medford City Council has been as an independent member, speaking out on issues affecting the people of Medford. I am proud of my record of public service and the trust that the voters of Medford have placed in me is something I value highly. Respectfully, I ask for one of your seven votes on Tuesday, November 3. I am always available to my constituents and I want to continue working for our proud community.”

Maiocco is a lifelong resident of the city and a graduate of St. Joseph’s School, Medford High School and Boston University. He majored in finance at BU and earned a BS degree in business administration. He has 36 years experience as a registered financial advisor and broker and is vice president-investments for Wells Fargo Advisors, LLC in Boston.

Counc. Maiocco is married to the former Cheryl Ann Floyd of Medford, a special education evaluation team leader at the Brooks School. They are the parents of a daughter, Alexandria, a graduate of Tufts University, and a son, Robert Jr., a Merrimack College graduate.
