The Green Line extension to Route 16 is listed as the top transportation priority in a Mystic River Corridor Strategy Plan that will be the topic of a public forum later this month.

The Mystic River Corridor Strategy project is a collaborative effort between the Metropolitan Area Planning Council, the Boston Redevelopment Authority and the cities of Chelsea, Everett, Malden, Medford and Somerville.

The Corridor Strategy is intended to create a collective vision for the river corridor and a strategy to achieve that vision. Working with the BRA, the cities and a wide array of stakeholder organizations, MAPC will help the communities develop a targeted strategy that will advance the goal of realizing the full potential of the Mystic River.

In the plan’s section on Transportation, a list of 16 “Priority Projects” shows the Green Line extension to Route 16 as No. 1; replacement of the Winthrop Street bridge over the Mystic River as No. 2; and the reconstruction of the Cradock Bridge in Medford Square as No. 3.

Other Medford projects on the transportation priorities list are the Route 16/Revere Beach Parkway improvements (#4), Urban Ring Phase II (#5), I-93/Mystic Avenue interchange (#6), Rivers Edge Boulevard (#8), Woods Memorial Draw Bridge (#9), the Medford Water Ferry (#15), and the Clippership Drive Realignment (#16).

MAPC will be holding a public forum on the Mystic River Corridor Strategy Plan on Wednesday, October 28, at Somerville City Hall, 93 Highland Ave., from 7 to 9 p.m. The purpose of this forum will be to present the recommendations from the plan and to discuss priorities for future action.

More information on the project and a copy of the report is available on the MAPC website.
