The varsity golf team has clinched the Greater Boston League title for the second year in a row.

The team clinched the GBL title with a close victory over Cambridge on Thursday, October 1. Medford narrowly edged Cambridge, 37-35, coincidentally the same score by which the Mustangs beat the Falcons earlier in the season. The team’s lone female golfer, Kylie Callahan, pulled out the two-point win to seal the victory for the Mustangs.

The golf team is now 8-0 and has two matches this week against Somerville and Malden and has its final two matches of the season against Malden Catholic on October 15 and 20. The Mustangs also have an automatic bid to compete in the state tournament, which is October 26 at the Beverly Country Club.

Senior Steve Aghiarian, a four-year starter and GBL MVP for the second year in a row anchors the team. The team’s other leading players include #2 Eric McNeil, #3 Andrew Pompeo, #4 CJ Bourque, #5 Jack Forcier, #6 Steve Scire, #7 Ryan O’Rourke and #8 Kiley Callahan.

Head Coach Ray Dyer is very proud of the team and says all of the players contributed to an “unbelievably successful season.”

“I am so proud of these kids. The experience of our team is our strength, they pull for each other and get along really well,” said Coach Dyer.
